Optical Upgrade: Uttarakhand Introduces New Tax Stamps

The Uttarakhand State Excise Department, located in northern India, has enhanced its tax stamps by incorporating optical security features.

According to sources, Track Pack Innovation (TPI), a start-up based in New Delhi, will supply c. 450 million new tax stamps annually, based on its patented biodegradable products BioSheal® and BioEal®.

TPI is providing these tax stamps in collaboration with the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The NRDC supports indigenous innovation and serves as the nodal partner for WIPO Green, identifying and listing green technologies in the global WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) database.

This upgrade marks a transition from the previous paper-based tax stamps, which were supplied by the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India. The earlier stamps lacked overt optical security features, making them susceptible to counterfeiting.
