Tax Stamps Crucial for Legal Cigarette Sales

According to Lou Valoze, former undercover agent at the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the use of state tax stamps on cigarette packs is crucial for legal sales. He said that by marking legitimate products, tax stamps help to prevent illegal cigarette trafficking.

Valoze said this during a recent episode of The Jordan Harbinger Show, one of the world’s larger interview-based podcast series, in which he recounted the story of a convenience store owner who became an undercover informant after getting entangled in a federal investigation into untaxed cigarettes.

While the podcast is primarily a tale of organised crime, informants and law enforcement operations, it also highlights the importance of cigarette tax stamps as a frontline tool in excise enforcement.
